What is the ChFC Designation?
The ChFC designation stands for Chartered Financial Consultant and is a designation awarded by the American College in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania. The American College is a fully acredited institution of higher learning which awards both Bachelor and Master's Degrees. To earn the ChFC designation the candidate must complete a total of nine courses. Seven required courses and two additional electives must be completed in order to earn the ChFC designation .
The required courses are: Financial Planning: Process and Environment, Fundamentals of Insurance Planning, Income Taxation, Planning for Retirement Needs, Investments, Financial Planning Applications,and Fundamentals of Estate Planning. To complete the requirements and earn the ChFC Mr. Brooksby completed the following elective courses: Estate Planning Applications and Financial Decisions for Retirement.
Aside from the educational requirements a person receiving the ChFC designation must have at least three years of experience in the insurance, employee benefits, financial services and health care.
To maintain the ChFC designation a total of 30 hours of continuing education must be completed every two years.
